New Naturalista: Amber Does the Big Chop!

Last Saturday at the Healthy Hair & Beauty Affair, attendees watched like proud mamas as college student Amber Fraser got her relaxed hair chopped off to reveal a beautiful, young naturalista! I felt it only right that I chat with her a bit about how she got to this point… At what age did you get a relaxer and why? Describe the state of your hair during this time. My hair wasn’t damaged when I got my relaxer at age eight. I have a picture of my mom and I, around age four, where she did what many other mothers did: braid my hair and tie the braids with those cute bubble hair accessories. However, my mom worked a lot and as a result, felt that relaxed hair would be more manageable because she wouldn’t have to put in much time or effort to style it. How long have you…

Event Recap | Healthy Hair & Beauty Affair

If you weren’t there or you don’t mess with social media, you’ve probably been wondering how my first ToBNatural event, the Healthy Hair & Beauty Affair, went on Saturday. Well, so as not to toot my own horn, I thought I’d just let some of the attendees tell ya… “If you didn’t make it you missed a great event y’all! So much fun, inspiration and positive energy! Sooo many gorgeous heads of hair and styles!” – Mel B. “I had an awesome time. The best hair event yet!” – D. Michael “@tobnatural did awesome today! Wonderful #naturalhair event!”– @curly_diva {Instagram} “This was my first time at an event like this, I absolutely loved it. I feel a bit more educated on my hair.”– D. Bennett “I ENJOYED IT!! This was my first time as well… And it was nice to see all the different hair styles… It was very informative and everyone…

Who Was I Kidding?! {My December Blog Challenge Fail}

I should’ve known better than to think I’d be able to pump out a post per day around the same time that I’d be putting the finishing touches on my event! Hey, ya gotta admit, I was good up until the 5th! 😉 But WOW… the day before the event included so much that writing even a quick blog post was the last thing on my mind: errand-running, responding to email inquiries, sending last-minute reminders, washing my hair and the list goes on! I figured once the event was over things would settle down and I’d be able to have a nice, sound sleep. NOPE! Going to bed at 4 AM Saturday morning (event day!) threw my whole sleep schedule off somethin’ awful for the next few nights! When I DID finally get some sleep, I’d wake up at all kinds of hours… I mean WIDE awake! Guess I was still…

December Blogging Challenge- Yep, Another One!

Hey y’all! You may recall the #31WriteNow blog challenge I and quite a few other bloggers did back in August which was prompted by humor and pop culture blogger Awesomely Luvvie. I must say, it went pretty darn well! It had it’s… challenges :-/ but I made it through. This time, I’ve been inspired by fellow NYC blogger Joy of Confident Curls {formerly The Boogie Down Beauty} who decided to challenge herself this month to do a post a day. Funny thing is, I actually didn’t even read Joy’s post until two days ago! So, I figured since I just so happened to have started the month off with at least one post per day, I’d not only cheer her on but join her and keep it going throughout the month. As I said in my fresh-off-the-hiatus post, I have a whole lot of ideas and topics I’m anxious to share with you…
