Howdy! Welp, last Friday you saw my brainstorming in action as I tried to figure out what to wear to this brunch with an all-white theme. If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you may have already caught a glimpse of my getup. Here it is in all it’s glory… Hair: Marley Twists Necklace: Aldo (similar here & here) Dress: Rainbow (similar) Gap scarf worn as belt (super old- similar here) Shoes: JustFab (similar here) I wasn’t sure WHAT to expect when I walked into Rainbow with my tight budget (limit- $20!) but I was hoping for a miracle. Would I find something brunch-worthy?! This strapless dress was the only thing in the entire store that was all white, basic enough to dress up and at a length I was comfortable with. I’ve basically been over the high-low thing since it began (LOL!) but this was doable since the “high” wasn’t…
So, here’s the story. I was invited to a brunch taking place tomorrow which I’m very excited to attend. Only thing is, it’s an all-white event. Now, I have a few white separates but nothing that really “goes” together. I’m also on the tightest budget EVER in the history of time. What’s a girl to do?! I took to Google the other night, brainstorming, using my PhotoGrid app to make a quick collage: Folake of Style Pantry always gets it right! A dress takes the guess work out of “what to wear” since it’s basically a top and bottom in one and her maxi is spot on. I added another basic maxi to the mix as well as a few separates just for some inspiration. I often like to accent a neutral, monochromatic palette (esp. white) with color color color, so I thought I’d go with my coral Lizette pumps…
HAPPY FRIDAY!!! This Wednesday, I had the pleasure of seeing a one mister Allen Stone in concert at Brooklyn Bowl in Williamsburg Brooklyn. MAN did I have a good time!!!!!!! <— too many exclamation marks? Nope, not even! LOL! This dude knows how to get a crowd going not to mention his oh-so-soulful voice- WOO! Ok, enough about him for now, let’s get to the fashion… Of course, the “superstar” of this outfit is the FLY GRL tank, created by my girl Toni of Haus of Swag. It brings a little old school flavor with the message as well as a design reminiscent of 80s rap trio Run DMC… Love it! As an #80sbaby and fan of old school hip-hop, I was all over it. I wasn’t really going for a set “theme” here. I was just trying to stay cool, be cute and feel comfy! ^_^ Now that I…
Summers in New York always bring lots of fun stuff to do with the fam! The International African Arts Festival returned to Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park Thursday July 4th through Sunday July 7th and this would be my first time attending… YIPPEE! With temps in the 90s over the past week, I needed to keep things light and airy so I would be comfortable while taking in the sights. What better way to do so than with an über-colorful, flowy kimono maxi dress. I got this one from H&M last year… LOVE the abstract print! I paired it with some “shine bright like a diamond” sandals and my straw I-wear-this-with-everything tote. Dress- H&M, similar here | Sandals- Target | Straw Tote- H&M, similar here | Sunnies- H&M, similar This kimono maxi dress is really one of my best options in this heat… What’s your favorite thing to wear to stay cool in…
Hello beautiful people! Keeping this one short ‘n’ sweet today. Solange absolutely KILT it at MOMA’s The Great Gatsby screening yesterday in this striped Jill Stuart dress straight from the Fall 2013 runway show! On the feet: red satin Burberry Prorsum wedges. *swoon* She tops it off with a perfectly coiffed fro to seal the deal. Sooooo, basically what I’m saying is… WEEERRRRRRKK!!! *two snaps in a circle* Head-to-toe, she’s giving me all types of life… and that’s all I have to say about that! LOL Until next time y’all! xoxo ~ Toia
