Fashion Friday: The Summer Romper

Whether you call them jumpsuits, playsuits or rompers, they have certainly become the quintessential item for Summertime over the last few years. This season, we’re seeing tons of ’em popping up in some fabulous hues and prints to suit just about every taste and scream “fun in the sun”! Here are three faves that I found while snooping around on a few of my favorite fashion sites… Look 1: Romper– H&M; Necklace; Thong Sandal | Look 2: Romper– Dorothy Perkins; Necklace; Wedge Sandal | Look 3: Romper– Topshop; Necklace; High Heel Sandal Make your romper office-ready (if your office even allows shorts and things…) by pairing it with a smart cropped blazer. Date night? Add a coordinating cardigan and cute ballet flats. I’ll be waiting until I whip these thighs into shape before I don one o’ these myself LOL but don’t let me stop you from gettin’ your romper…

Natural Fashionista: Ebony

Here’s another fabulous young lady who I met on the socials via a mutual friend. Her style is just amazing and seemingly effortless. SHE DOPE! šŸ™‚ I had to share the dopeness with you all. Here she is… I’m Ebony Green-Ellis, I work in the production department of a thrift store, and I’m a Cali/L.A. girl! How long have you been wearing your hair in its natural state and what made you take that step? I’ve been natural for about 13 years. I used to have middle of my back length straightened hair which I was very attached to and almost defined my beauty through. My last year of high school, it began to break and so did my fragile self-esteem. That same year, I met a kindred spirit of a friend. We both wrote poetry, shopped at thrift stores, and enjoyed music no one else around us did at…

Fashion Friday: 8 Statement Necklaces for (Just About) Any Budget

While Springtime is normally all about bright and bold hues, you don’t necessarily have to be draped in it from head to toe, especially if color really isn’t your “thing”. BUT… a great way to add a pop of color is with a gorgeous statement necklace. The purpose of this piece of jewelry is all in the name- it makes a statement all on its own. That said, they’re best when worn with a rather simple ensemble as it does the job of bringing a taste of drama. Also, simple studs or similar will do if you’re rockin’ one of these. Earrings that are just as attention-grabbing as your necklace are just way too much and will drown out the statement that your neck wear is trying to make. Remember how you used to ransack your mom’s jewelry box and put everything on? Yeah, don’t be that girl. LOL! šŸ˜‰…

Month In Review: My February Fashion

February was a crazy busy month with event after exciting event! Between New York Fashion Week, launch parties and soirĆ©es, I was definitely a girl on the move and wanted to look good doing it! Take a look at my eclectic style as I made my way around the city… This whirlwind of a month started with the Optimum Amla Legend Media Launch event with special guest Tracee Ellis Ross. I opted for a retro look complete with an almost completely shrunken ‘fro and vintage secretary blouse. To kick off NYFW, I stopped by the Required Flare Trunk Show for which I donned a rather preppy ensemble and a stretched-out fro. Get outfit deets and see how you can get the look here! That Saturday was theĀ Know Your RootsĀ event at Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem. Here’s an example of perking up your basics! I kept it vanilla with the outfit but…

Natural Fashionista: Gracie J.

I met this stylish gal during NY Fashion Week backstage at the Edwing D’Angelo show while covering the hair and beauty behind the scenes. Her amazingly THICK afro puff had me at “hello!” and her preppy-chic look was fierce but I’d soon find out that this naturalista was there representing one of my favorite sites! Let’s meet her, shall we? Introduce yourself!Ā  My name is Gracie J, I am Assistant Beauty Editor at LoveBrownSugar.com and beauty blogger at ByGracieJ.com aka Curl Next Door. I am a freelance manicurist, a naturalista, and DIY enthusiast… and Iā€™m a cat lover, hi Mitty Bits! Have you always worn your hair in its natural state? If not, how long ago did you make the decision to go back and what made you take that step? I went natural a little over 3 years ago. I was tired of my hair thinning out from getting…
