SHRINKAGE! For many naturals, that’s almost a curse word (LOL!) to the point where hair care companies have begun to market products promising to minimize this… “problem”. Listen, I say, “welcome to being Black!” Ha! Do you feel me people?! It’s inevitable once our kinks, coils or curls come in contact with moisture that it’s gonna shrink. It is what it is. *shrug* I get that we want to show off our true length, totally understandable. I, personally, don’t stress it too much. I embrace it and just let this hair do what it do. Rewind to last month. I had a week full of events which included traveling to and from Philly in a day, getting home late, then up bright and early in the A.M. for the Blogging While Brown conference. After the first two days of my blown out twist-out, I wasn’t tryna hear twisting this mane…
Detangling is probably the most dreaded part of having natural hair… am I right? Straddling the line between being effective and being gentle can get the best of some. However, it doesn’t have to be such a chore. Over time, I’ve learned a few “tricks of the trade” to make this part of wash day a cinch! Stumbling upon a great article from BlackHairInformation.com says that there are others who have also found the “secret”. My job is to inform and inform I must! Below are five cocktails that’ll not only make your wash session far less stressful but give your hair the boost it needs in the process. They’ve cleverly put together this handy graphic so you can save it, print it, apply it… ENJOY! Courtesy of Black Hair Information So, which cocktails have YOU incorporated into your regimen? Are there any others not listed that you would suggest?…

Soooo… is it wrong if I take someone else’s go-to hairstyle and use it as my own? No, Okay, cool… ’cause that’s what’s happening! LOL! It’s no secret (at least within the natural hair community) that Essence.com Beauty Editor Nicole M. Melton is known for her fabulously coiffed topknot. I’ve seen Nicole around the circuit a number of times and it’s only upon catching up with her at a CurlBOX event at the Ouidad Salon in NYC last summer that I got to see that this was no ordinary bun! When she sat down for her consultation and began to take her hair down, I tried to sneak a peek at how she’d put it back together! ^_^ But alas! Amid the schmoozing and networking, I didn’t catch how it was done. Fast forward a few months… I’m finally on Instagram. Of course, I’m following Miss Melton, gawking at this…

Teyonah Parris hits the red carpet with another fierce updo at the Mad Men Season 6 Premiere in L.A. Y’all know I just loooooovvve a huge bun almost as much as I love an obnoxiously large pompadour and this style right here seems to be doing double-duty. Like her S.A.G. Awards ‘do, Teyonah has caused quite the commotion (in a good way!) with this DaRico Jackson creation. The hair tops off the perfect silhouette created by this amazing high-neck, body-hugging dress by J. Loren. With gold detail and see-thru side paneling, this dress is saying “HERE. I. AM!” There’s a lot to be said about a woman (or quite possibly her stylist) who knows what shapes are flattering to her body. I have yet to see Teyonah miss a beat. Hitting a few inches below the knee, the dress is just the right length to be rounded out by these…
