“Once again, it’s on!” Last night’s 21st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards brought out the naturalistas in a big way! Red carpet slayer Lupita Nyong’o and stylist Micaela Erlanger have hit another one outta the park with this GORG-em-OUS Elie Saab gown. Her braided updo more than compliments this bold print and that skin is as radiant as ever! Within no time, fashion illustrator Josefina Fernandez posted this epicness to Instagram… Viola Davis rocked a fro to top off her white halter Max Mara gown and the natural hair enthusiasts were loving it… me included, of course! Might this be a twist-out… braid-out? *shrugs* I pity the fool who STILL says naturally kinky hair can’t be classy! In an awesome acceptance speech, Viola thanked her husband, daughter and mother, “the people who love me exactly how God made me”. We see you Viola! Photo Credits: Frederic J. I’ve been trying to think up some profound intro for this post, perhaps some super poetic description of Miss Lupita Nyong’o. Listen, it ain’t happenin’! What is there to say except… This chick bad! Here are four reasons why (in my humble opinion). So, ummm, let’s start with the obvious. {1} The Fashion! I’m gonna be completely honest… I hadn’t the slightest idea who this beauty was before the Golden Globes (nope, didn’t see 12 Years A Slave) but, needless to say, she has had my attention ever since! I think I’m a bit late to join #teamlupita, but I’m okay with that. 😉 Anyways, Lupita Nyong’o = RED CARPET KILLA! Stylist Micaela Erlanger does an amazing job with her event after event. The colors, the shapes- they always work. She doesn’t stop. Just when you think she’s topped the last look, she goes and does something like this… And then…
Teyonah Parris hits the red carpet with another fierce updo at the Mad Men Season 6 Premiere in L.A. Y’all know I just loooooovvve a huge bun almost as much as I love an obnoxiously large pompadour and this style right here seems to be doing double-duty. Like her S.A.G. Awards ‘do, Teyonah has caused quite the commotion (in a good way!) with this DaRico Jackson creation. The hair tops off the perfect silhouette created by this amazing high-neck, body-hugging dress by J. Loren. With gold detail and see-thru side paneling, this dress is saying “HERE. I. AM!” There’s a lot to be said about a woman (or quite possibly her stylist) who knows what shapes are flattering to her body. I have yet to see Teyonah miss a beat. Hitting a few inches below the knee, the dress is just the right length to be rounded out by these…
The natural hair community came to a screeching halt as social media was flooded with photos of this amazing red carpet look created by none other than the talented Felicia Leatherwood, natural hair stylist to the stars! I know you’re probably thinking, “Wow, girl you late!” But you’d be wrong LOL! Trust. I’ve been all over this since the very night Miss Parris walked that fancy coif down the red carpet of the 2013 SAG Awards. Still, I couldn’t let another week go by without an honorable mention on the blog! First, let’s REALLY give it up for celeb stylist Felicia Leatherwood who created this magnificence! *applause* Elegance? Check. Wow factor? Check. And don’t we just LOVE seeing our natural celeb sistas flaunting their coils and curls for the world to see? It was a beautiful thing. Not since Viola Davis at the Oscars did we cause such a stir!…
