From My Kitchen: Lemon-Herb Tilapia

Happy Sunday y’all! This post is an unlikely one {for my blog at least} but as I say in my bio, I just wanna share what I love. And, well… I love Lemon-Herb Tilapia! ^_^ For those of you wondering what to cook today, this one’s for you. I had never heard of tilapia before 2006. One of my coworkers used to order tilapia with penne a la vodka from this Italian restaurant all the time and I’m like, “what’s TILAPIA?!” O_o After I got married in ’07, I was always on the hunt for new and exciting dishes since my husband came from a home where he had many “menu” options thanks to an Italian step-dad who loved to cook. I remembered the tilapia! Both my husband and I love seafood (okay, lemme qualify that statement- I don’t do mussels, clams, oysters or squid!!! O_O) A few clicks of…

Last Minute Mani: Magenta x Mint

I don’t always paint my nails. But when I do, I prefer Sinful Colors. (-_-) HA!! Okay, I know… that was kinda cheesy but I couldn’t resist. I discovered Sinful Colors brand nail polishes last year after seeing them featured in a few PhillyDiva tutorials on YouTube. When I saw them at my local Rite Aid… *gasp*. I couldn’t believe all the vibrant colors they offered at such an affordable price! Without hesitation, I bought three. 😉 Well, yeah, it took me a good while to decide exactly which colors to buy because they’re all so AWESOME!!! My nails have been growing pretty well these days which, I’m convinced, is due to the regular use of coconut oil. How I use it and its benefits will be left for another post but the point is, I thought it was time to finally jazz up these babies. I used to do…

AFROS- A Celebration of Natural Hair: Interview

AFROS- A Celebration of Natural Hair, the highly anticipated coffee table book by photographer Michael July, features 400+ pages of amazing, eye-popping images of women and men alike (and even some chirren!) sporting their natural tresses. I had the pleasure of chatting a bit with the man of the hour about his “baby” at the powerHouse Arena official book release party & exhibition: TBN: What gave you to the idea to do the book in the first place… why Afros? MJ: I did Afros because I’m a collector of Black art and culture, videos, movies, books… everything I could get my hand on. I started to notice, particularly from my heroes from the 60s, 70s and 80s were people with afros and natural hair. Then I started to look into the subject and there weren’t really any books out there that really spoke about it or illustrated how dope and…

The Incredible Shrinking Fro!

SHRINKAGE! For many naturals, that’s almost a curse word (LOL!) to the point where hair care companies have begun to market products promising to minimize this… “problem”. Listen, I say, “welcome to being Black!” Ha! Do you feel me people?! It’s inevitable once our kinks, coils or curls come in contact with moisture that it’s gonna shrink. It is what it is. *shrug* I get that we want to show off our true length, totally understandable. I, personally, don’t stress it too much. I embrace it and just let this hair do what it do. Rewind to last month. I had a week full of events which included traveling to and from Philly in a day, getting home late, then up bright and early in the A.M. for the Blogging While Brown conference. After the first two days of my blown out twist-out, I wasn’t tryna hear twisting this mane…

#31WriteNow: August Blog Challenge

As I’m scrolling endlessly through my Instagram feed today, I came across a repost by Naturally Supreme via Awesomely Luvvie about this blog challenge… #31WriteNow. So, of course, I head on over to Luvvie’s page and yup, it’s what you think: one post per day for every day in the month of August. One word- YIKES!! O_O Now, my goal since attending the Blogging While Brown conference has been to get out at LEAST three blog posts for you lovely people per week. But SHEESH… 31 days straight?! Welp, while this challenge gave me brief palpitations, I almost immediately reposted said repost with a resounding… reluctant… excitedly nervous “I’m gonna try”. :-/ I think this will definitely help me build my writing skills and keep me on my toes creatively. With this challenge, there are no rules for length *whew* and ya know what? I’ve come to realize that my articles…
