I’m amazed at how many talented and inspiring people I’ve come across via social media, especially Instagram. NYC artist/illustrator Sharee Miller is one such person. One look at her drawings and you can’t help but smile. But, there’s more to this naturalista’s art than a series of lines and pretty colors. Here’s her story… Have you always worn you hair in its natural state? If not, when and why did you decide to go back to your natural texture? What was the reaction of your family and friends? Sadly no. Just like many others, I begged for a relaxer in 6th grade and I got it. My hair was long and straight but by 8th grade it all broke off. Since then, I have had short hair and grown to like it. Then while I was in college all my friends were beginning to make the transition back and loving it…
You bring it, she paints it! Your favorite “Afro Artist” Ashley White aka Ash the Painter will be in Orange, NJ this evening at Meko, New York Natural Hair Care Spa & Boutique hand-painting your tees, sweatshirts, tank tops… whatever! Word on the street is she might even sing a lil bit. 😉 For $35, Ash will be painting “Autumn Attitude” (above) on whatever article of clothing you bring in. But wait, there’s more! From each painting, Ash will donate $5 to Simeko’s Born to Be a Natural Leader Teen Workshop Program which aims to help young women build self-esteem and embrace their natural beauty all the while helping them develop valuable career skills. Good stuff, huh?! Head on down after work and watch Ash as she turns your apparel into a gorgeous work of art. 5:30 pm-8:30 pm Meko, New York Natural Hair Care Spa & Boutique 616 Freeman…
Woooooohooo!! I made it! We made it! Shoutout to Awesomely Luvvie for introducing this challenge and all my #31WriteNow blogger buddies who stuck it out for the whole month of August including Naturally Supreme, Love. Embrace. Inspire., Kitten Heel Marvel, NaturallyMe35, and The HodgePodge Files. Even if you missed a day or two, the effort was definitely evident and for that, I give you props! I truly appreciate the encouragement and the support between us was amazing. ♥♥ Now, I’m not gonna act like this was a walk in the park… a “challenge” it was. Quite a number of articles made it in just before the stroke of midnight or a few hours before but hey, as long as it was “today”, it counted! LOL! As I began this challenge, I gulped in nervousness wondering if I would be able to come up with content interesting or even entertaining enough to fill 31…
Happy Wednesday everybody! I had so much fun doing my 20 Random Facts list that I thought I’d share a little more randomness! {heeheehee} 1. When I was little, I had a Caucasian red-headed Cabbage Patch doll… who I named Felicia. o_O 2. I went back to natural hair once before somewhere around 2000/2001. When I cut all the relaxed hair off, I had like a half of an inch of new growth- hated it!! Not the hair itself but how short it was. I have a large dome-piece, y’all, so I knew when I tried again, I would need to let it grow out some more. It took like eight years but I’m here! ^_^ 3. I have my daddy’s feet {Not. Cool.} :-/ It took YEEEAARRRS for me to be comfortable with wearing open toe footwear. 4. Favorite movies: Coming to America, Brown Sugar, Love and Basketball, Scott…
It’s 10:27pm and I’m now sitting down to do my post for the day. Well, it’s still today and I’ve done way worse so let’s go! ^_^ I was tagged by my buddies over at Naturally Supreme (ya know, iFro, iLoc, iTwist… yeah, they rock!), who have also joined in the #31WriteNow mayhem fun, to write 20 random facts about me… I’m soooo making this list up as I go along folks! (-_-) I was born in Barbados… …but I can’t swim. I’m watching that new show Deal With It with the hubster… it’s hilarious! I discovered six gray hairs on my head. SIX! O_O My new favorite colors are coral and teal. My fingernails are coral and my toenails are teal. I didn’t learn to drive until I was 21. Is that weird? I’m told I have a serious face but I’m really quite… cooky! I had horrible acne…
