Hair Tip Tuesday: Hair Supplements are Cool and All, But…

…keep in mind that they do not REPLACE a balanced diet. There are a number of these types of pills and vitamins on the market right now which promise to give you amazing results in a relatively short amount of time, most of them showing you impressive ‘before and after’ shots to prove their worth. Not saying they don’t work or won’t work for you, but you want to make sure that when and if you do decide to use them as a part of your hair regimen that you aren’t neglecting the other important factors that contribute to the health of your hair. “Supplement” is defined as “something added to complete a thing, supply a deficiency or reinforce or extend a whole”. That said, they are meant to be used to sort of fill in the gaps where we may be lacking in the nutrition department, not as a…

Hair Tip Tuesday: Moisturizing vs. Sealing

Happy Tuesday y’all! In this edition of Hair Tip Tuesday, we’re briefly exploring the proper uses of certain products for moisturizing your hair versus what you might use to seal. What is Moisturizing? Some synonyms for moisturize are dampen, drench and saturate… words associated with water. Simply put, to moisturize means “to make wet”. Therefore, true moisture comes from either water itself or products that are water-based. You’ll know if your product is water-based if the very first ingredient is good ole H2O. Don’t neglect moisturizing your hair from within by drinking lots of water! Sealing… What’s That? Let’s be clear: oils and butters DO NOT moisturize your hair. These are sealants and which are most effective if used while the hair is slightly…

Natural Fashionista: Ebony

Here’s another fabulous young lady who I met on the socials via a mutual friend. Her style is just amazing and seemingly effortless. SHE DOPE! 🙂 I had to share the dopeness with you all. Here she is… I’m Ebony Green-Ellis, I work in the production department of a thrift store, and I’m a Cali/L.A. girl! How long have you been wearing your hair in its natural state and what made you take that step? I’ve been natural for about 13 years. I used to have middle of my back length straightened hair which I was very attached to and almost defined my beauty through. My last year of high school, it began to break and so did my fragile self-esteem. That same year, I met a kindred spirit of a friend. We both wrote poetry, shopped at thrift stores, and enjoyed music no one else around us did at…
