there's no one way to make French toast, it all depends on your preferences. whether you like thick ciabatta bread or classic sliced. the basics are the same. here's how I make French toast at home.

gather your ingredients! you'll need: - 8 pieces bread of choice - 2 eggs - butter - about 1 cup milk - ground cinnamon - sugar (white or brown) - salt - vanilla extract (optional)

mix eggs, milk, about 1 1/2 tbsp sugar (no need to make it super sweet as you will add syrup later), a dash of salt & 1/2 tsp cinnamon.

mix well & transfer to wide bowl (if you're not already using one to mix). put pan on low-ish medium heat & add butter.

I slice my bread in half diagonally because (1) it looks cute, & (2) I fit more pieces in my pan at once. when it's hot, dip each piece in batter & place in pan. wait for golden brown.

use spatula to peak at underside of bread & flip when golden brown, which should be just a couple minutes. cook other side to same golden-ness.  pair with bacon & eggs & enjoy!
