3 Easy Tips for Holding Onto Your Edges!

keeping the edges of your hair from thinning can be an issue for anyone... whether you wear your hair in its naturally textured state or get it chemically straightened.

the hairline is very delicate no matter who you are, so it's important to handle with care. here are three ways you can keep your edges in check!

avoid excessive brushing

1

when doing our slicked-back styles, we want those edges to LAY. but brushing too much can lead to traction alopecia - hair loss due to excessive manipulation. try just using your hands to smooth the hair. or just use a few strokes of the brush, if needed & follow with your hands & then tie down with a scarf to secure.

2

neat braids don't mean tight braids, or at least it shouldn't! many have accepted that their hair will be tight when freshly braided but it doesn't have to be this way. again, you risk traction alopecia when braids are installed too tight. speak up during your salon visit & if you're doing the braiding, be gentle!

reduce wear of ponytails, puffs & buns

3

I love my high buns & high puffs as much as the next girl, mainly because they're easy & no-fuss! but to wear them all the time can do a number on the hairline. it's best to give your edges a break & wear styles that don't require the hair being pulled up or back too often to keep your hairline from thinning out.
