Soooo… remember how I bought that dress for my cousin’s wedding last month and how it was a fail? Well, I found something else just in time! Here’s what I ended up with. Ya liiiike? π
With limited time AND funds, my sister and I made a thrift shop run to find ‘fits for this wedding. I decided to finally hit up a spot in Brooklyn that style & natural hair vlogger Keisha G. aka Ahsiek1118 raves about. With many of her thrifted finds going for under $10 per item, I was confident I’d find something nice for dirt cheap. I’ll do a separate post on all of the ridiculous deals I found but for now, let’s concentrate on this skirt.
I got this beautiful bubble skirt for the low, low price of $4!! That’s no typo, you read right… F-O-U-R DOLLARS! It was slightly roomy in the waist so ma dukes offered to take it in for me and voila! At first, I wasn’t sure what I would wear it with but once I got home and tried it on for a second time, it hit me- my black velvet blazer would go great against the soft taffeta material. All that was needed now was a simple white tank {oh, I gots plllenty of those!} and I was good to go.
Wait… shoes! Right, so, I got these blue faux suede peep-toe numbers from a random store close to home. They were actually bought to wear with my first outfit choice from the thrift shop, a dress. However, we had a lil bit of a wardrobe malfunction after it was washed so I had to make a quick outfit change. Since this combo worked out to be more season-appropriate than the dress I originally set out to wear, I was actually happy for the malfunction! I kept the blue shoes in the equation to break up the neutrals and the weather was quite warm for mid-November so I was able to go bare-legged.
This just proves that you don’t have to be ballin’ to turn out a simple yet fly outfit. I spent a total of $27 and used items I already owned (or borrowed) to complete the look. I’m a huge advocate of “shop your closet” when you have a special occasion coming up. You’d be surprised what you dig up and what new combos you can create by pairing things you’ve never worn together before. If you’re still at a loss but on a budget, try your local thrift shop!
