after cleansing, I apply a hair mask to make sure my hair has enough moisture before heat styling. this is my first step in lessening the chance of heat damage.

once I'm all rinsed out, I section the hair & apply a creamy leave-in, followed by a heat protectant.

layering these two will create that barrier to keep damage at bay.

after applying both products to the hair, I brush it through for full coverage and then blow it out.

I repeat the process for all sections of hair, twisting each one as I go to make sure they don't revert while I work on the rest.

once everything is blown out, I wrap the hair & tie it down for the night to make sure it stays nice & flat.

then I take small, thin sections of hair and flat iron on 400 degrees.

it was time for a trim so I snipped off about 1/4" after flat ironing each section.

afterwards, I went back to give the hair a bit of a soft curl and smooth out the final look.

given that it was YEARS since I had picked up a flat iron, I'm happy with the results!
