Want a protective style that’ll get you the “wow factor” without having to spend hours working on it? I’ve got you covered!
Here’s how this style came about…
Wondering what to do with my hair for my sister’s graduation party last year, I turned to YouTube and BAM! A fierce twisted fauxhawk in less than thirty minutes! The photo above is a few days after the festivities.
With a slight change to the pompadour, I rocked it about a month later when I was approached by photographer Ray Tamarra on 6th Ave in TriBeCa. He loved the ‘do and wanted to get some shots for Essence Magazine’s Fall Hot Hair Issue! Ummm… please and thanks! Here’s the shot that landed in the magazine.
When it came time for my shoot with DFinney Photography, it was no question what style I would rock. One or two of these photos actually went a little viral! The twisted fauxhawk was definitely a different look but Danni did a fantastic job with these pics that really made the style pop!
And now that you’ve got some background, here’s a step-by-step look at how the twisted fauxhawk is done… ENJOY!!
To maintain the style, I fold a large scarf into a triangle, place the long side at the back and tie it at the front. The sides stay nice and smooth and every hair and hairpin stays in place! You can use Marley hair as I did here or any textured hair you feel most complement your own texture. Feel free to use this tutorial as inspiration and give it your own spin!
Is this a style you’d try? Do you often turn to YouTube or elsewhere when you’re stuck in a style rut?
I love this style!! I will def have to try this
