Man, 2014 sure did fly by!
Over the course of the year, I managed to find so many fashionable naturals via Instagram and had the privilege of featuring some of them here. I look forward to introducing you all to more of these fab ladies in the year to come. In the meantime, check out my top picks of 2014.
@CelenaLynnGill by Danielle Finney
I thoroughly appreciated photographer and friend Danielle Finney tagging me on this and a couple other photos from her session with Celena Lynn Gill! Not only is her hair magical but this Ankara dress is FIRE! Get a closer look at this fabulousness and the rest of her shoot here!
Ijeoma Eboh of @KlassyKinks
Fellow NYC natural hair blogger Ije stays on point! This is pretty much the quintessential getup for fall: blazer, booties, cozy scarf and a warm yet stylish hat to top it all off. Basics done right! While the foundation of the ensemble contains the usual autumn color scheme, I love that she added a punch by layering with a bright piece and then an accessory which ties it all together. The hat looks perfect on her and beautifully protects those mini twists. Ijeoma, WERK!!
Jessica Pettway aka @jfashiongirl87
You may remember Jessica as our very first Natural Fashionista, featured almost a year ago. Since then, she has grown into one of the most popular faces on the ‘gram along with her super cute baby girl Kailee. Jessica never ceases to amaze us with her eclectic style. It’s no secret that she isn’t afraid of color. She’s got three prints happening here but, somehow, it works! And who doesn’t love a snazzy head wrap as a quick and simple protective style?
Joy Adaeze of Joy Loves Fashion
This self-proclaimed “tuban queen” kills it every time! From sexy dresses to cool, laid back separates, she stays photo-ready. This halter denim jumper paired with the “panama hat” is giving me all types of old school flavor. Doesn’t she look like she just stepped out of Vogue circa 1978? You sense the menswear flair but it still manages to stay very feminine. Love it all!
Cynthia… SimplyCyn
You know this list wouldn’t be complete without her! Rocking a vintage fur from Etsy, Forever 21 pants, Zara pumps and a quirky tank, Cynthia encapsulates all that is a New York City stylista- eclectic, fun and bold. Ditching her epic twist-out for some yarn twists, the look is complete!
Folake | StylePantry
If her hair doesn’t grab you, her effortless style sure will! I would stalk this woman’s blog almost daily! Following so many on IG, it’s kinda hard for me to keep up with this beauty’s daily looks. But, best believe, every chance I get, I go to that search feature, type in her handle and almost always end up gawking at the fabulousness she came up… like this AMAZING midi skirt! WOW!
Frédérique Tietcheu aka @igobyfrankie
Truth be told, once I stumbled upon this fun, fro’d-out, London based stylist, I was hooked! In my eyes, she can do no wrong when it comes to style and that hair, gurl! You can tell that she is just… HER. Bottom line: she wears what she likes and I like what she wears! She SLAYS in this cream ASOS jumper and her signature side-parted kinks top everything off perfectly.
Annisa LiMara- @ilovealimara
Armed with a fresh new faded and tapered cut, vlogger Annisa LiMara stepped into fall with one of the cutest “lady” dresses (that’s what I like to call these) I had ever seen. I’m quite partial to this silhouette and the edgy hair just kinda kicks the whole look up a notch. It’s got a vintage-y vibe but still feels current. Check out that purse, though… too cute! Nude pumps- a must have!
Kaline Akinkugbe & MaameYaa Boafo by Ada AfrizionA friend of mine tagged me on this photo. I’d say she knows me pretty well! The colors, the joyful expressions, that huge hair on Kaline and those pants… THE PANTS!! Definitely repost-worthy. Ijeoma of Klassy Kinks recognized and tagged MaameYaa which got me digging. Thanks to that tag and my investigative skills, I found the NYC photographer behind it all. #winning
I am all about taking a simple outfit and taking it one step further with a stand-out piece. It doesn’t take much. Peep how Melissa took a basic button-down, jeans and tan pumps then BAM… fur vest. HELLO! Great combination for Natural Hair Does Care’s Natural Hair Brunch Affair in November. Oh, and the flawless curls via crochet braids/weave, beautiful.
Welp, these are just a few of the looks that stood out for me on the ‘gram in 2014. Which one is YOUR fave?!
xoxo
