SHRINKAGE!
For many naturals, that’s almost a curse word (LOL!) to the point where hair care companies have begun to market products promising to minimize this… “problem”. Listen, I say, “welcome to being Black!” Ha! Do you feel me people?! It’s inevitable once our kinks, coils or curls come in contact with moisture that it’s gonna shrink. It is what it is. *shrug* I get that we want to show off our true length, totally understandable. I, personally, don’t stress it too much. I embrace it and just let this hair do what it do.
Rewind to last month. I had a week full of events which included traveling to and from Philly in a day, getting home late, then up bright and early in the A.M. for the Blogging While Brown conference. After the first two days of my blown out twist-out, I wasn’t tryna hear twisting this mane every night to maintain the look for the rest of the week. By the end of day two, it was pineapple city… I was too beat! Every morning thereafter, I simply applied some leave-in, an oil or my Karen’s Body Beautiful Butter Love, gave my hair a shake and I was good to go! By day four, I just stuffed my fro inside my satin bonnet and called it a night. Here’s how that all turned out…
Yup, this is how my fro fared over the span of seven days (day six not pictured but looked a lot like day five without the slick-back side. ^_^) and I must say I loved every minute of it! My favorite had to be day four, it was so huge, soft and fluffy. I bet if I tried to achieve that exact look again on purpose, it’d be a FAIL… just because that’s how it always goes, am I right?! But that’s cool, I’ll have the pics to remind me of what used to be. š
So, let’s chat… do you often let nature take its course by allowing your hair to have a mind of it’s own and shrink up or are you a stickler for nightly retwisting/rebraiding to keep your hair stretched? Tell me below!
Talk to you soon.

I did not like my shrunken fro. I often became frustrated twisting my hair only to untwist for a twist out and it shrink up and very undefined. I grew tired of not seeing my growth; so, I cut it off. I love it short and I don’t miss the twisting or shrinking. But its SO nice on other folks.
Shrinkage is a four letter word, lol. I could never rock the teeny weeny fro so I ended up locking my hair (I think 4 or 5 years ago now) and i STILL had to deal with shrinkage, lol. now that my locks have matured, it’s no longer an issue and i don’t miss it one bit.
Nice!! Yeah, I tried going natural with an inch of new growth-hated it! Second go round, when I cut my relaxed hair off I had let it grow out for like 9 months. Blown-out, it wasn’t all that short and even shrunken, still not that bad. This is where cornrowing skills and packs of Marley Braid 1B came in handy! š
