Last month, influencers, bloggers and vloggers in the natural hair community braved below freezing temps to witness Texture on the Runway at NYC’s City Winery during New York Fashion Week.
As explained by Naturally Curly co-founder Michelle Breyer, Texture on the Runway is an opportunity to combine the forces of textured hair with amazing designers, showcasing a different type of woman than what’s normally seen on the runways of NYFW. Looking around the crowd, every texture, length and style was well represented at this epic event!
And who better to have co-emcee than Patrice Yursik aka Afrobella?! She looked great!
*bare with me and these cell phone pics! LOL! Someone forgot to charge her camera battery.
All Texture on the Runway marketing- from the invite, to the swag bag to posters throughout the venue- was adorned with the beautiful graphic art of Dana Bly of Olive Paperie and Pardon My Fro.
Dark & Lovely
Dark & Lovely opened their show with energetic dancers from FIYAH to introduce the bold hair styles and modern designs by NYC’s own Samantha Black.
Here are my crazy attempts at photos from my vantage point 🙂
All of the hair was fab but check out these two looks!
Cantu
Vlogger Maria Antoinette filled us in on what to expect from the hair as well as the African-inspired, hand-dyed designs by suakoko betty. Each model’s look would represent a different role that woman might play in life at one point or another- jet-setter, boss, socialite, etc.
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to capture this section of the show but I managed to get a nice group pic featuring all of the models with Suakoko betty Creative Director Charlene Dunbar ( 3rd from the right).
Great shot of Maria Antoinette with the designer.
Creme of Nature
This section showcased designs from David De La Cruz with a 70s flair and featured curls, kinks, waves… and one edgy fro!
Design Essentials
My phone decided I would only get one photo here, (I promise I’ll have my camera next time!) but they did a good job mixing it up with styles from a rod set to a chunky fro to a braided updo with bangs.
Sadly, I decided to take a little walk and missed Garnier Fructis who followed and closed the show. But I do know that one of my faves René Daniella aka OwnByFemme closed it up showing off her gorgeous curly fro.
Check out who I met and reconnected with at the show through the eyes of Instagram and follow the hashtag #TextureOnTheRunway for everything I missed.
Next, I’ll be sharing a hair how-to from one of the brands featured at Texture on the Runway so you can get fierce at home!
xoxo
