If you’re into cooking, travel or just about anything of an “artsy” nature, you’ll love Tread Lightly Journal- a bi-annual print magazine featuring a collection of stunning photography, wanderings and culinary ventures which encourages readers to tread the unknown. As you flip through, you’re sure to be inspired by the beautiful imagery, dope illustrations and flowing text!
I got to speak with the creator of Tread Lightly Journal, twenty-eight year old Tricia Rudder. The young Long Island resident attended Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in NYC, majoring in illustration and production management with a minor in Asian studies. The charming images throughout this publication give evidence of her passion for all things creative.
“I started TLJ because I’ve always had a fascination with zines. Ever since I volunteered at my high school library and read a book about it, it had always been in the back of my mind as one of the ultimate creative things you could do and a way of sharing thoughts.
Also, after getting laid off from my job in the fashion industry, I felt it was the push I needed to move forward with my ideas.
I felt that I should be able to use my hobbies in art, photography, cooking and writing collectively in some medium and be able to share with people my musings and experiences.”
Here are some of the goodies you’ll find in Volume 1.
- A feature on a treasure of Long Island’s gold coast, the Planting fields Arboretum
- Recipes featuring the common ingredient of the preserved Meyer lemon
- And a mini travel diary from Seoul, South Korea by Tricia herself
- A travel story on a trip to Malta
If Tricia’s story and images inspire you to broaden your horizons, I encourage you to help bring Treads Lightly Journal to life! There only eight days to go in the Kickstarter campaign and every little bit helps! Watch the video below to learn more and keep up with progress on Instagram.
