Haven’t done an official product review in quite a while… I’m gonna get better with that for sure! 😉
This review features some goodies I received from Original Moxie to try out. Having been huge fan of their Hair Bling High Shine Pomade and Twist Mist Lightweight Shine for styling, I was eager to try out their cleansing and conditioning products. What I love the most about Original Moxie is their commitment to quality natural ingredients. While most of us are used to “conventional” ingredients like shea butter, EVOO and aloe, OM pushes the envelope by including an array of nourishing herbs and botanicals, some I had never even heard of! Welp, here we go!
Get Clean! No-Foam Shampoo- 8oz. $16 {All curl types. For those with dry hair or scalp issues like dandruff or itchiness}
Claim: “Sulfates, the chemicals that produce heavy foam, also strip hair of its natural oils. Our Sulfate- free Shampoo takes a gentler approach, harnessing the cleansing properties of Wildharvested Yucca Root & Soapnut to remove dirt and excess oil without disturbing your scalp’s natural balance.”
At first whiff, this shampoo has a bit of a nutty scent with definite notes of citrus as you continue to waft. It smells quite natural, not at all “soapy”. Get Clean! is unlike your usual shampoo having this kind of creamy, cake batter consistency going on {and who doesn’t like cake batter! But don’t eat this though, okay 😉 }.
Using a shampoo that doesn’t foam or lather can be a rather awkward experience for newbies since we’ve kinda been trained over time to think that we need lather for our hair to be properly cleansed. Not the case. Get Clean! contains as its key ingredients Yucca Root and Soapnut, natural herbs used to effectively remove dirt and buildup along with Organic Neem Leaves and Karanja Oil which are known to treat and prevent scalp and skin disorders. The product felt smooth as I was working it through my hair- I was able to easily separate the strands with my fingers and pass my shower comb through it a few times. Click here to see what I mean! In the end, my hair and scalp felt clean while maintaining its moisture.
Onto conditioning!
Intense Quench Deep Conditioner- 8oz. $18 {Fro dry and/or damaged hair}
Claim: “…our unique blend of botanicals, herbs, proteins and emollients is like a smoothie for your hair, nourishing from the inside out. Hibiscus encourages strong growth and Strawberry adds shine. Not only does it bathe your senses like a trip to the spa, it delivers stronger, softer and healthier hair. So give your thirsty hair what it really wants – Intense Quench™!”
You know what Spring smells like? Yeah, that’s Intense Quench! Mint meets citrus with this silky-feeling conditioner. Basically, what you get out of this product is all in the name, quenching the thirst of tightly-coiled hair like mine which is prone to dryness. The key ingredients work in tandem to give your hair the TLC that it needs- Hibiscus promotes strong hair growth while Strawberry adds shine.
Keeping my hair in the same six sections I used for shampooing, I worked the conditioner through, untwisting and finger-combing each one. It had a decent amount of slip with a tingle that left my scalp refreshed. I put on a plastic cap and let Intense Quench do it’s thing for about fifteen minutes. This was a great follow-up to Get Clean!, leaving my hair feeling soft to the touch and easy to manage.
The wrap up: My hair felt clean but never stripped of moisture and my scalp felt fresh… rejuvenated, especially after using Intense Quench. Detangling was no issue from beginning to end, a huge plus! The natural ingredients gave my hair life and shine before I even applied a styling product! I would recommend this duo for any who want a good clean feeling without sacrificing moisture.
Stay tuned for Part Two of my Original Moxie review where I try out two of their styling aids with a chance for you to win everything I used!
In the meantime, keep up with Original Moxie…
