Happy Thursday everyone!
While attending a brunch a few weeks ago, I tweeted this quote said by one of the pioneers of the natural hair community in attendance:
“Bloggers & hair care pros need to bridge the gap so that the correct info is put out there.” #MastersBrunch @DianeCBailey

So true! I had been dwelling on this very fact for a while and upon hearing that, I knew I needed to put it in action ASAP!
That said, I have teamed up with Simeko Watkins-Hartley of Meko New York Natural Hair Care Spa & Boutique to bring you “Ask the Pro”! What better way to get your natural hair facts than to seek help from someone who has been in the business for many years and practices what they preach!
How It Will Work
Throughout the week, I will solicit questions from my followers across all social media. I will then choose one topic to cover each Thursday, posting the question along with Simeko’s response here on the blog. Simple enough, right?
So, help a sista out! We want to know what’s on your mind so go ahead and throw some questions at us! 🙂 We know you have them, so ask away…
What do you want to know about natural hair care? Post your questions or even your concerns below. Feel free to email them to me at tobnatural@gmail.com.
My hope is that this new weekly feature will be of real help and encouragement to my readers. To get things started, I pulled a question from a recent facebook conversation among friends. This is something that I know many naturals do on the regular! Stay tuned to see what I mean…

Hello,
I have plans to have Senegalese twist installed and I have successful avoided blow drying or flat ironing my hair since May of 2014. How can I prepare my hair for this protective style without blow drying? I was thinking of braiding about 6 plats and stretching them out by pinning them across my head…will this be enough?
Thank you so much!

Great idea and collaboration!~NaturallyMe35~
is a mild protein treatment okay to be used once a week?
Hi Tamara! Protein treatments can make the hair hard, dry and brittle if used too often. Based on my research, it’s best to only use a protein treatment about once a month if needed. When you say “mild”, it’s hard to answer that since I don’t know exactly how mild the particular treatment you want to use is. I would need to take that question to a professional. What type of treatment are you thinking of using?
