February was a crazy busy month with event after exciting event! Between New York Fashion Week, launch parties and soirées, I was definitely a girl on the move and wanted to look good doing it!
Take a look at my eclectic style as I made my way around the city…
This whirlwind of a month started with the Optimum Amla Legend Media Launch event with special guest Tracee Ellis Ross. I opted for a retro look complete with an almost completely shrunken ‘fro and vintage secretary blouse.
To kick off NYFW, I stopped by the Required Flare Trunk Show for which I donned a rather preppy ensemble and a stretched-out fro. Get outfit deets and see how you can get the look here!
That Saturday was the Know Your Roots event at Dinosaur BBQ in Harlem. Here’s an example of perking up your basics! I kept it vanilla with the outfit but brought the drama with a statement necklace, bold Ankara headwrap and coral purse. With plenty of snow still on the ground, I struck a balance between fashion and function with my H&M boots- they’ve got good traction on the bottom, are knee-high for added warmth and cute at the same time.
The following Monday was the Edwing D’Angelo runway show where I was invited to cover the beauty prep backstage. Not expecting to stick around for the show itself, I went for simple comfort but still wanted to put a little effort into my look. I’ve been on a mission, recently, to explore my closet and pull out pieces I don’t wear often to create some variety. This has surely spawned some fun and unlikely combos… like this one! I chose bright colors, muting them with neutrals- it totally worked. With my hair still undone, I grabbed one of my trusty scarves and it was a wrap (see what I did there? LOL!).
Inspired by a photo of actress Teyonah Parris, I dug up my faux fur vest- that I’d been searching for like crazy for months- and recreated the look for an after-work fashion and beauty showcase the next day. My hair? I (finally) washed and blew it out to create a quick, protective updo.
I’d have about two weeks to chill before the Beauty Press Spotlight Day Press Event which gave me plenty of time to revamp my hair juuussst a bit. Check it out here!
Dresses make life easy, slip one on and you’re dressed in seconds! This vintage rainbow plaid number is clearly more of a Spring or Summer deal but I chose to “winterize” it with a matching blazer, a wide belt and boots… BOOM!
The very next night, I’d join a slew of NYC Naturalistas and some from out of town for a Dark & Lovely Au Naturale launch party. There was a particular style inspiration I’ve had in mind for a while and decided this was the night to execute it! More on that to come…
Well, there you have it! I guess you could say I’m sort of a fashion chameleon. Once the warmer weather hits, I’ll have even more options to play around with and I can’t WAIT!
xoxo
