How to Wear Your Shorts in the Winter!

Shorts in the winter? Why not?!

A little while back, I shared with you a few ways you can refresh your wardrobe while spending little to no dough. Another way you can kinda expand your wardrobe for “free 99” is by wearing pieces over different seasons. Since 2007-ish when I worked a 9 (8:30) to 5 in an office, I’ve been rocking shorts in the winter without blinking an eye!

Let’s rewind. Coming from working in the retail field for six years, wearing jeans just about every day, I was now in an office setting with a business casual dress code. I had to find creative ways to put more professional outfits together five days a week.  It hit me that wearing shorts (Bermuda shorts were always my preferred style), was basically like wearing skirts… and we still wear those in the winter, right? So I just had to use the approach when wearing shorts in the winter.

I owned a few pair of “dressy” shorts so I was up for the challenge to try wearing them to work in cooler temps. I never looked back!

The key to wearing shorts in the winter, or really anything that’s meant for summertime, is layering. To make this look work, I pair my shorts with some tights. I take a liking to the fancy patterned kind but you can definitely do a nice opaque pair as well… I’ve also done this.

So we’ve covered up skin that would otherwise be exposed with tights, but a dope pair of knee-high boots are a good idea to keep those legs warm. Of course, rock something winter-appropriate up top. Here, I went with a turtleneck layered under a crew neck sweater. Did this because both were fairly light and it was a frigid February afternoon. But feel free don a nice chunky sweater  if you wish.

A longer coat seems best to kinda even things out. Especially if your shorts are a lighter material, you’ll wanna cover your bum (at least I do! LOL!) and thighs so you can still give a “lewk” without getting frostbite. There’s nothing like a nice wool camel coat… they go with absolutely everything! The denim jacket peeking through was, again, for the sake of layering for warmth and it happens to add a bit of style. The cold and this island girl DO NOT mix so I do everything I can to stay warm!
