3 Keys for Transitioning to Natural Hair

so you've decided to transition back to your natural hair texture... awesome!

if you've been wearing chemically relaxed hair for a number of years, the switch can be a bit tricky. here are 3 keys that should help you along!

moisturize regularly

1

during this transition, moisture can make or break the success of your process. proper moisture keeps the hair manageable as the new growth is nourished & softened. using a sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo, deep conditioning & layering products to seal in moisture are key!

handle with care

2

you'll be dealing with two very different textures, so the care will be different from what you're used to. the point where the textures meet are most fragile. a wide tooth comb or special detangling brush will help you gently get thru tangles. dividing the hair into sections for washing will help prevent matting & knots.

choose the right styles

3

low manipulation styles are best while transitioning. braid-outs & rod sets will help blend the textures, last a week or so & can help you learn your texture. straightening also blends the textures but you can risk damage of the new growth. use heat a protectant if you do this. protective styles are your best bet.
