3 Protective Style Mistakes You Don't Want to Make

protective styles can be a great way to give your hair a break from daily styling &  help you retain length. but some forget that the point of a protective style is to help maintain hair health!

to get the most out of your protective styles, be sure not to make these 3 mistakes...

installing styles too tight

1

some braiders seem to think neat braids mean tight. it doesn't! a tight protective style defeats the purpose of "protection". tension from tightly pulled hair can cause irreversible damage! tell you're braider if it's too tight & don't put too much tension on your own hair when doing it yourself.

you CAN still wash your hair with braids in. dandruff & buildup clog the scalp, making it a breeding ground for bacteria! keep up with cleansing your scalp to keep it & your hair healthy. try diluted shampoo in an applicator bottle with a nozzle or an apple cider vingear rinse.

cleanse your scalp!

not moisturizing hair & scalp

yes, protective styles give you a break from everyday styling, but it doesn’t mean you can ignore your hair. it still needs regular moisture to stay healthy. an easy way to do this is to mix water, leave-in conditioner & your favorite oil in a spray bottle. spray daily or every couple days onto the hair & scalp as needed.

moisturize regularly
