of course, before styling, I'm gonna cleanse & condition my hair. this time, since my hair is super tangled, I'm starting with a pre-poo treatment to help with detangling so the cleansing process is easier.
as I work in the pre-poo treatment, I can do some finger detangling to gently remove smaller tangles before I go in with a detangling brush. and then, it's onto cleansing!
use fingertips - not nails - to massage the scalp to prevent damage to the skin. follow up with deep conditioner, making sure to coat the ends, oldest part of the hair & prone to damage. work it in with a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush.
once the section is covered, I twist it up. after completing my whole head, I cover with a plastic cap for about 20 min & rinse out. next, I apply a heat protectant and pomade oil to prep for blow drying.
it's good to comb it all through to make sure all strands are covered. gently blow dry small sections to stretch the hair. afterwards, I create a U-part at the front and apply some gel to the edges of the remaining hair.
next, brush the hair and gather up into a ponytail. form a bun by rolling the loose hair back & under. pin to secure. now for the curls! apply a but of setting spray or styler of choice to a small section of hair. brush through.
place the flexi rod about half the way onto the hair & roll the hair onto the rod & smooth the ends. then roll a bit & wind to the roots. repeat until the whole bang is curled!
the next day, gently remove flexi rods and begin to separate each section for volume. twirl the hair with your fingers to encourage the curl and prevent frizzy ends.
pick at the roots to close up the gaps and give some height. if desired/needed, add a bit more gel to spruce up the edges.
brush in and smooth down. fluff curls and make any last adjustments for your final look!
