Even before winter officially began, we’ve been bundling up here in NYC and even had a little snow. With “feels like” temperatures plummeting to the single digits, you could say the hawk really showed up! When winter hits this hard, dry, itchy skin comes right along with it. But with just the right game plan, we can fight the harsh effects of winter. Here are a few simple things to do this season to beat dry winter skin!
Drink Plenty of Water
First things first. Just like our hair, keeping our skin moisturized starts from within. Water flushes out toxins and impurities all while hydrating your skin cells, replacing the moisture your body loses throughout the day. Yes, drinking water is a struggle for a lot of us but you don’t have to jump right in at a gallon a day. To really beat dry winter skin, this is the best way to start. So set a goal and work up to it.
Avoid the Hot Shower
Who doesn’t love a hot shower when there’s a chill in the air? And as a mom, I can especially attest to the feeling of finally being able to slip into a nice, relaxing, hot shower. But the truth is, too hot a shower in the wintertime, when the dry air is already playing against our skin, can strip it of even more moisture. Try lowering the temp down to a warm setting instead to prevent further dryness.
Use a Moisturizing Body Cleanser
What you use on your skin once you’ve hopped in the shower is just as important as the temperature. When I do get that moment to myself after putting my son down for a nap, showering with Olay Moisture Ribbons Plus body wash is a treat. The Manuka Honey scent makes me feel like I’ve been transported to a fancy shmancy spa. No, really… it’s so good! And if you want to mix things up, there’s also a calming lavender scent, perfect for those showers before bed. But it’s the double ribbon formula of moisturizing and cleansing components that’s the real star here.
This luxurious body wash is not only an effective shower cleanser but it’s infused with shea butter and Olay’s indulgent moisturizers that help fight the harsh effects of winter air. If you hate that dry, tight feeling you get after using soaps or other body washes, the moisturizing formula of Olay Moisture Ribbons Plus will make you a believer after just one use!
Whether you’re a stay-at-home mom with a full workload or a need to wind down after a rough week at the office, Olay Moisture Ribbons Plus gives you a luxurious experience you’ve longed for, all while imparting the moisture your skin need this season.
Keep Skin Damp
This is tip I’ve learned fairly recently and it really does help. My skin gets really dry and ashy if I’m not careful, so I welcome all the moisture! While my body wash does a great job of giving me soft skin, keeping my body a bit damp instead of drying off completely after showering helps to create another layer of moisture, keeping the skin supple and ready for your final step.
Seal in the Moisture
Again, much like our natural hair care routine, sealing in the moisture is what’s gonna help your skin stay moisturized longer when you need it most. Winter is not the time to slack off here. During these cooler months, I like to use something heavier to keep my legs, especially, from drying out. Smooth on some whipped shea butter or heavier oils to your damp skin to fight the dry air of the season!

I love hot showers! I guess I have to stop doing that, especially since my skin does horrible in these Chicago winters. I haven’t tried Olay body wash. My grandmother lives by it. I guess I need to put it on my shopping list.

Hey Brittany! Yes, too hot a shower will definitely dry out the skin but trust me, I know how tempting it can be as cold as it gets here! A warm-ish shower can still be pretty relaxing though. Hope you’re able to try out the Olay wash!
Oh cool! I had NO clue about the hot showers! Darn, it, I’m ALWAYS in the shower and it’s ALWAYS scolding hot. LOL (I’m the reason men made that hot shower meme. LOL) But now I know why my skin is always extra dry. Thanks!

Not the hot shower. That’s my go to relaxation. I haven’t tried this Olay body wash yet but that scent looks like it smells amazing and it’s Olay so I know it will leave my skin feeling super soft. Thanks for the review. Here’s to a prosperous 2018. #BLMGirl

Hi Tomi! Well, I do still take a WARM shower, it’s just not as boiling hot as I used to take LOL! But I know what you mean. I’ll start the water hot and turn it down some after a minute or two, that’s all. It’s still quite relaxing for me. 🙂 The scent of this Olay wash is just AMAZING! Hopefully you’ve had a chance to try it!
