The weather is finally warming up which means putting those the funky and fun styles back in rotation! One of my go-to styles when my braid-outs, twist-outs or blow-outs start coming down to their end, next to a high puff, is a quick frohawk!
A simple and modern-ish take on a popular hairdo, the FROhawk gives you the look of a mohawk without the shaving by gathering the sides in to form a single strip of fro down the center. Sounds simple enough, right?
Well, I’ve been doing this style for years at all lengths and have come up with various ways to achieve it at each stage. No matter where you are in your journey, at pretty much any length, you can create a frohawk! Here are three ways!
Mini Ponytail Frohawk
I did this frohawk a couple years ago when we were off to spend a day out for our 8th wedding anniversary. I was a very new mom at 3 months postpartum so, needless to say, I had VERY little time to create something cute for the occasion.
All you have to do is divide the hair into three sections for medium length hair- four if your hair is shorter – and slick two of them into mini ponytails at the center of your head, leaving the front out for some hang time! Dividing the hair into more sections when the hair is shorter will allow you to catch it all and still have enough to play with. If you have more length than I do, you can definitely put all sections of hair into those ponytails.
This method is especially great if you really want those edges to lay flat! I used gel to keep the sides nice and sleek but you can use whatever you like. More details in this post!
Bobby Pin Frohawk
This method I used to create a frohawk came when I had a little more length but it is absolutely doable AND recommended if you have shorter hair. Because it leaves most of your hair out, it totally gives the illusion that you have more or even longer hair, if that’s what you’re going for.
You’ll just need a handful of long bobby pins and the styler of choice. I used some product to refresh my old twist-out and give my hair some moisture. You can see more in this throwback post but here’s a quick look at how its done!
Frohawk w/ Hair Combs
Similar to the bobby pin method, I’ve been using this technique to create a frohawk the most lately! It’s super quick to do so when you’re pressed for time, this comes in handy! My Creme of Nature Pure Honey Edge Control plus the hair combs help keep the hair in place and slicked down the way I like. You could say it kinda strikes a nice balance between the first two methods! Just when life or humidity wont let my blow-out or braid-out be great any longer, I throw it up in this style!
Take a look at how easy it is to achieve this cute and funky style!
That’s it! Three easy methods to create a frohawk! It’s an easy, cute quick-fix style that’ll get you out the door fast plus it’s great for keeping the hair out of your face and off your back in the summer heat!
Which method do you think you’ll be trying this season?
