About last night… Brown Girl Marketing’s Ylorie Taylor produced an amazing networking mixer, PowerNET where any who are looking to take their brand to the next level could learn from fabulous women in business. These subject matter experts, as she calls them, shared their experiences, lessons learned and other tidbits to help us be better at doing what we love!
Who better to host this event but entrepreneurs Myleik Teele of curlBOX and Huetiful creator, Ken Burkeen.
The setup was genius.
Think… speed-dating for branding and entrepreneurship.
While seated at tables throughout the venue, we were given 8 minutes to pick the brains of the expert at our table. Then… SWITCH! The ten experts would then move on to the next table. Eight minutes goes by fast when you’re having fun but we were able to gain a wealth of information from these ladies.
Here are a few of my favorite quotes…
#BGMPowerNET “Start before you’re ready!” Wise words from @gorgeousingrey ??

“Show up so much that people have to ask who you are!” -Myleik
“Never leave a venue without people knowing what you do; it’s not bragging, it’s fact.” –Renae Bluitt, In Her Shoes Blog
“Commit to sucking at something to get something done. Give yourself permission to mess up.” Shannon of @ParlourMagazine #BGMPowerNET

On the importance of balance… “Make time to stop or else something will MAKE you stop.” Seanna-Kaye Denham of Natural Hair Does Care
@DrSKDenham: “Show me on your calendar where you’ve scheduled time for yourself…”
*crickets* ? BALANCE! Make time for you. #BGMPowerNET— Toia B. (@ToBNatural) April 6, 2016
“Challenge yourself to work with people who aren’t like you” -Myleik
On trying to maintain a “look” on social media, “Stop worrying about what other people are doing. Be confident in what you’re giving” Camara Helps (to me ↑ 🙂 )
“Be clear on who you’re reaching, who your audience is” -Christina Brown, LoveBrownSugar
“You should be giving out favors long before you ask for them!”- Myleik
Time escaped us so we only had eight rotations before we had to start wrapping up. So at the end of the speed rounds, Ylorie had all ten experts take a few questions and offer some closing words.
I thoroughly enjoyed the event and, of course, came away with so much… including this dope swag sponsored by EDEN BodyWorks!
Oh, and there were cupcakes. *squeal*
Many thanks again to Ylorie for a great approach to networking and for bringing all this talent together to share their tips on branding and entrepreneurship. PowerNET was a huge success!
If you’re an entrepreneur- whether you’re a fellow blogger or content creator, a designer, photographer, world traveler- and you’re looking to gain some insight, follow the hashtag #BGMPowerNET to catch more and follow these inspiring women in business!
xoxo,
Toia B.
